Alberta homeowners heat with gas, and they heat for a long time. That makes boiler content here practical and blunt: will this keep my family warm in a deep cold snap, is it the right size, and who will look after it? Companies that answer those questions clearly, on video and on model pages, give buyers a reason to call them over a cheaper quote.
The Alberta boiler buyer
Gas dominates. Statistics Canada reports that 76% of Alberta households used natural gas as their primary heating energy in 2023, with electricity at 14%. Forced-air furnaces are common, so boiler buyers are often a distinct group:
- Owners of older homes with hot-water heat replacing an aging boiler
- Custom and infill builders' clients choosing in-floor radiant heat
- Homeowners adding a combi to handle both heat and domestic hot water in a smaller footprint
- Acreage owners outside the cities, where reliability and service distance matter
Calgary and Edmonton are the two big markets, with Red Deer, Lethbridge, Airdrie, St. Albert and Strathcona County's Sherwood Park as significant secondary ones.
Climate and content timing
Alberta's winters are long and cold, and in the south, chinook winds can swing temperatures sharply in mid-winter. Those swings are a good hook for explainers: why steady, well-controlled hydronic heat feels different from forced air when the weather lurches.
Timing for content:
- August and September: publish sizing, replacement and "is my boiler ready for winter?" content.
- First cold snap: have your "signs your boiler needs a professional look" video ready to promote.
- Late winter: radiant floor and renovation content, as homeowners plan spring projects.
Regulators to know
- Alberta's safety codes system covers gas, plumbing, building and pressure equipment, among other disciplines.
- ABSA is the body that administers pressure equipment in Alberta, which includes boilers.
- Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training oversees trade certification.
- Prepaid contracting. If you sign contracts away from your usual business premises and collect payment before finishing, Alberta's Consumer Protection Act may require a prepaid contractor licence.
We summarise and link only. Confirm your obligations with each body.
Programs, as of October 2026
When we checked official Alberta sources on 2026-10-22, we found no province-wide home heating rebate, and no Alberta agreement under the federal Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program.
The Clean Energy Improvement Program, run by Alberta Municipalities, provides financing repaid through property taxes for energy-efficiency upgrades, but only in participating municipalities. If you serve one, a short, dated explainer on how property-tax financing works can be useful. Confirm eligible upgrades with the program first.
A starter library for an Alberta boiler company
A practical first batch for an Alberta company:
- "Living with hot-water heat in a forced-air city: what changes"
- "Why boiler sizing matters more when it is minus 30"
- "Radiant floors in a new Calgary or Edmonton build: what to ask your builder"
- Model pages for the two or three boilers and combis you install most
- "What happens on install day", filmed on a real job with the owner's permission
- A short, dated CEIP explainer, but only if you serve a participating municipality
Each piece ends with a clear call, text or email step, and none of it asks a homeowner to touch the equipment.
How we approach Alberta boiler content
- Lead with reliability. Alberta buyers respond to content about uptime, service response and correct sizing more than to efficiency claims.
- Separate the two cities. Shared core videos, separate local pages and intros for Calgary and Edmonton.
- Explain hydronic to a forced-air province. Many buyers have never lived with boiler heat; a "what living with radiant heat is like" explainer earns its place.
- Don't promise rebates that don't exist. Content that mentions programs should be precise and dated.
Our model page playbook covers how to build pages for the lines you install. See explainer videos or contact us about your Alberta market.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an Alberta boiler rebate we can feature?
As of October 2026 no province-wide home heating rebate appeared on official Alberta sources. The Clean Energy Improvement Program offers financing in participating municipalities only, so any content about it should name the municipality and link the program.
Do Calgary and Edmonton need different content?
Your core videos can be shared, but service-area pages, video intros and local examples should be separate. Homeowners trust content that clearly knows their city.
Does the prepaid contractor licence affect our marketing?
It can, if your sales process includes signing contracts away from your premises and taking money before the work is finished. Check your obligations with Alberta's consumer protection office; we only flag it.
