Boiler content for British Columbia companies

BC boiler content has to serve two climates and two fuels. Coastal homeowners ask about comfort and hot water; Interior and northern owners ask about reliability in real cold.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

British Columbia is really two boiler markets. On the southwest coast, mild, wet winters mean homeowners care about comfort, quiet and hot water. In the Interior and the North, colder and longer heating seasons put reliability and backup heat first. Good BC boiler content speaks to whichever buyer you actually serve.

The BC boiler buyer

BC homeowners heat with a near even split of fuels. In 2023, according to Statistics Canada, natural gas was the primary heating energy for 42% of BC households and electricity for 36%. That balance shapes the questions buyers ask:

  • Gas-heated homes ask about replacing an older boiler, switching to a combi, or adding a heat pump alongside the boiler.
  • Electrically heated homes rarely switch to a gas boiler, but some ask about hydronic in-floor heat in renovations.
  • Condos and townhomes in Metro Vancouver bring strata rules into the conversation, which is worth a dedicated explainer.

The largest population centres, Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond and Coquitlam, sit within one metro area, while Kelowna and Saanich anchor the Okanagan and the Island.

Climate and content timing

The coastal climate makes BC's boiler season gentler but longer and wetter. In the Interior and the North, the first hard frost arrives earlier and pushes urgent replacement calls into October and November.

For content, that means:

  • Coastal companies can publish comfort-focused explainers year-round, with a push in late September.
  • Interior and northern companies should have reliability, sizing and "signs your boiler needs a professional look" videos live before the first cold spell.
  • Everyone should have install-day and service explainers ready for the spring replacement window, when homeowners plan rather than react.

Regulators to know

  • Technical Safety BC oversees gas systems and boilers and pressure vessels, among other areas, and licenses gas contractors in the province.
  • SkilledTradesBC runs skilled trades certification, which now applies to gasfitters and several other mechanical and electrical trades.
  • WorkSafeBC handles workers' compensation.

We name and link these bodies only. Your licensed staff know your obligations, and our content never suggests unlicensed people do gas or boiler work.

Programs, as of October 2026

  • CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program: income-qualified rebates focused on heat pumps and envelope upgrades. New requirements took effect for invoices dated on or after 2026-07-06, and some rebates were removed.
  • Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, BC delivery: an agreement announced on 2026-06-29 funds no-cost retrofits for lower-income households through BC Hydro and FortisBC.

These programs mostly favour heat pumps rather than boilers. For a boiler company, the honest content angle is a comparison: when a boiler, a heat pump or a hybrid setup makes sense for a particular home. Confirm all program details with the administrator before publishing.

A starter library for a BC boiler company

If we were planning your first six pieces, they would look something like this:

  1. "Boiler, heat pump or both: what makes sense in a Lower Mainland home"
  2. "Why Interior winters change how we size a boiler"
  3. "Replacing a boiler in a strata townhome: what approvals involve"
  4. A model page for each combi you install most often
  5. "What your annual boiler service covers", filmed during a real visit
  6. A dated explainer on current CleanBC programs, kept up to date each quarter

How we approach BC boiler content

  1. Split by climate. Separate service-area pages and video intros for coastal and Interior markets, where you serve both.
  2. Answer the heat pump question. A fair, dated comparison explainer is usually the highest-value BC video.
  3. Explain strata. For Metro Vancouver, a plain-language video on what strata approval means for a boiler replacement saves your estimators time.
  4. Use local proof. GasBoilers.ca, the gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat, serves 26+ BC communities and shows how a focused boiler brand reads to BC buyers.

Our video planning guide includes the heat pump comparison in its first set. See model pages or contact us about your BC market.

Frequently asked questions

Should BC boiler companies make content about heat pumps?

Yes, honestly framed. Many BC homeowners are weighing a heat pump, a boiler, or a combination, and provincial programs focus heavily on heat pumps. An explainer that compares the options for their home builds more trust than ignoring the question.

Can we mention CleanBC rebates in our videos?

Only with care. The Energy Savings Program changed its requirements for invoices dated on or after 2026-07-06, so any rebate content should be dated, link to Better Homes BC, and tell viewers to confirm eligibility with the program.

Do we need separate content for the Interior?

Usually, yes. A Kelowna or Prince George homeowner faces a longer, colder heating season than someone in Vancouver or Victoria, and the content should say so.
